One of the reasons I wanted to write about TV talent shows was that many years ago I wanted to be famous myself. At least when I went for auditions as an actor I didn't have millions of people laughing at me. (Only about three!)

I do know about humiliation though. The low point of my career was probably taking my then 6 month old daughter to a commercial casting for the roles of 'dad and baby' only to be told that she'd got the job, but I wasn't quite right as her father!
